While training experts and institutions to increase the impact of advocacy activities, ENERGIA participated in a number of events, including the Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD-9) and the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD). This enhanced our representation at the international level and offered opportunities to be more effective in influencing policies and programs.
ENERGIA’s participation in these events also shone a light on the poor representation of women and people from countries without widespread access to reliable energy at the international level. It showed how progress towards gender equality was slow and uneven. ENERGIA identified women’s involvement as critical to ensure policy effectiveness, to shape more gender-sensitive policies and to place priority on women’s and girls’ rights. The Network fostered women’s presence since then and this approach strengthened the credibility of conveyed messages.
